Training for Managers

Managers play a crucial role in the employee experience. They can directly influence retention and engagement.

Research shows that:

An employee’s relationship with their manager impacts upon whether the employee chooses to stay or leave.

Whether the employee feels that they belong and they’re with “their” people affects their level of engagement at work as well as their likelihood to stay in an organisation.

Leadership Programmes

Our consultants have considerable experience in delivering leadership and management development programmes through a combination of online and in person workshops, action learning, one-to-one coaching and mentoring. We have particular expertise in helping managers and leaders to take responsibility for and ownership of organisational change and to engage their staff in the change process. We know absolutely that unless staff are engaged and consulted they will not be committed to the changes asked of them.

Retained Learning

We take particular pride in passing on our skills in facilitation and consulting, to ensure that the managers who have experienced our leadership programmes feel equipped and capable of sustaining and implementing their learning once the programme is complete.

We often deliver Leadership Development Programmes in-house to a group of managers and leaders. We encourage group discussion and learning and this approach can help to develop a sense of identity as a first line management team or senior leadership team, encouraging peer support and reflective learning during the programme.

Programme Modules

A typical 5 module Leadership Development Programme may include:

  1. The Leader’s role in context – organisational strategy, values and behaviours.
  2. Self-Awareness and Impact.
  3. Managing Change.
  4. Managing Performance and Coaching.
  5. Practical Application of skills.

Management Skills Masterclasses

Alternatively you may wish to take up our management skills masterclass option, where managers select the masterclasses they will most benefit from as part of appraisal and personal development discussions with their line manager. This will ensure their manager is engaged with the process and understands the development the individual is experiencing. This management insight can then form part of the assessment process to measure the organisational and individual benefits from the programme.

Masterclass Modules

Masterclass modules can be delivered in individual three hour sessions or combined into whole day sessions, to best manage the time away from the day job.

  • Role of the Line Manager.
  • Managing performance, having challenging conversations and nipping things in the bud.
  • Health and wellbeing and managing attendance.
  • Managing a Disciplinary/Grievance including conducting investigations.
  • Recruitment and Selection, avoiding the pitfalls, honing interviewing skills.
  • Supporting staff through change.
  • Managing in a coaching style.

One to One Training & Coaching

Skill Up Your Team, One By One

We recognise that some members of your staff will benefit more from one to one training/coaching than attending a formal training programme. As part of their personal development planning, we can offer people tailored support to build confidence and skills, for example assertiveness training, presentation skills, facilitation skills, etc.

Our approach is to meet with you to understand the development needs and compile a programme to meet these needs, over an appropriate period to allow individuals to reflect on their learning, put it into practice and get feedback.

Our trained consultants then work on a one to one basis with the individual. This may include the use of psychometrics such as 360 degree assessment, MBTI or NLP tools, to help individuals further develop their self-awareness and interpersonal skills.

We always take account of the working environment and organisational culture and work with both the individual and the manager to ensure the learning is embedded into behaviours in the workplace.

Our programmes are completely flexible and, whilst we do of course use our past experiences to deliver the training/coaching, we always ensure that any such programme is fully designed to meet your needs.

We cover the social context, the business benefits and the importance of respect in the workplace. (This workshop can be specifically tailored to reflect your own policies at no extra cost. We can also deliver tailored training for customer facing staff or programme roll-outs as part of a wider diversity initiative).

Managing absence

Learn how to get on top of absence issues, handle them within the law and avoid extra costs for your business. Improve employee wellbeing and promote the importance of discussing health and wellbeing needs to make the necessary adjustments required to be effective at work. Explore how you can ensure that everyone takes ownership of their own health needs and seek the support they need to be effective in their role.

Covering everything from drugs and alcohol use within the workplace, to poor performance and disciplinary hearings, this workshop looks at how to nip problems in the bud, improve performance, manage people within the law and deal effectively with dismissals.

Interviewing skills

Starting with a clear outline of what selection is all about, we work through structuring, questioning techniques, listening skills and assessment. Managing performance

How to agree objectives and personal development, review performance, coach and appraise your people – with practical exercises based on real jobs. (This course can be tailored to your business incorporating your own process, paperwork and competency framework).

Succession planning

Retention of staff is critical in these challenging times. Do you know who your business critical people are? Do you know what they do? Do you know how to identify, develop and retain the next wave of people critical to the future of your business? What skills will you need in your future organisation and who has potential to gain these skills and grow with the business? We will share workforce planning approaches for you to consider e.g. 9 box grid succession planning, and HR software tools.
