Nigel French

LLM. Chartered FILEX, Associate

Nigel is a highly experienced employment lawyer, having worked as a legal practitioner and academic for over 20 years. He advises a range of public and private clients, including solicitors, small commercial concerns, to larger employers, including multi national companies and government institutions. Nigel offers representation in the form of general and specific advice on all employment related areas, including front line advocacy in the courts. This extends, for example, to work on complex international TUPE transactions, the conduct of major workplace investigations and complex severance negotiations. Developing on his experience as a lecturer on degree, postgraduate and masters level course (currently at Anglia Ruskin University) Nigel has developed expertise in the delivery of short courses in industry, providing bespoke programmes to meet the requirements of particular business. He also writes published articles in periodic journals, and has been described as an employment law ‘Guru’ in the academic section of The Independent newspaper.

Jamie Hornell-Edwards

MCIPD, HR Consultant

Jamie moved into the HR function within a family business, to manage basic processes such as sickness absence, holiday and performance. Jamie is now an Associate of the CIPD (Level 7) and a qualified Mental Health First Aider (MHFA). Jamie has focused her career to date in the private sector, working for 6 years in a small business; launching the HR function and supporting the business through a period of substantial change where she has implemented performance management processes, flexible working patterns and employee incentives. This process allowed Jamie to demonstrate to employees that HR isn’t all about policies, procedures and employment law, HR can support both the business and its employees to successfully grow and develop.
Jamie supports our Blue Star HR Consultants with policy audits, redesign, and implementation and collates the monthly newsletter provided to clients of Blue Star HR. Jamie is keen to grow professionally and is now undertaking further development by working towards her Chartered Membership with the CIPD.
To date Jamie has worked within production engineering, utilities, traffic management, scaffolding and utility arboriculture. These industries have created a confident HR professional, who is familiar with hard working conditions, long hours, shift work and managing performance related pay.

Liz Moss

Associate

Liz is an experienced organisational development consultant and senior practitioner coach. Having worked for and with a wide variety of private, public and VCSE organisations she has a wealth of experience and passion for helping people and organisations work better together. She is professionally qualified in Coaching and Mentoring, Mediation, Programme and Project Management and Marketing. Liz provides practical support to organisations including organisational reviews, business planning, risk management and governance, process reviews, facilitation and change management and is an experienced Programme and Project Manager. Alongside supporting organisations, she works with people to enhance the skills they need to maximise their value and effectiveness in the workplace by providing a range of learning and development services, coaching and mentoring and mediation for teams and individuals. During her early career, Liz held senior positions in public sector (County Council), private sector (utilities) and voluntary sector (environmental and disability charities). Since 2010, she has been consulting with a wide range of sectors including public sector (Customer Services, Health and Social Care, Highways and Place based services), education, retail, recruitment, utilities, construction and manufacturing and leisure – amongst others. As a Coach, she works with people at all levels – from CEOs, leaders and managers to people starting out in their careers – providing support with career development, improving skills and performance and assisting people through career transitions. Liz loves a complex problem to solve and is passionate about enabling solutions that are sustainable and customer. Her work is delivered using a coaching style, ensuring the people and organisations she supports are meaningfully involved with developing their own solutions and outcomes.

Sarah Ramos

CIPD, MSC, Associate

Sarah has over 20 years generalist HR and training experience in both the private and public sectors, where she has worked operationally and strategically on large scale organisational change projects, bespoke management learning and development interventions and innovative resourcing solutions and recruitment campaigns. Sarah has a breadth of experience on employee relation matters, has provided day to day advice and coaching to managers on a range of HR issues and developed business partnership working with senior managers and Trade Unions. An associate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, Sarah also holds a Masters in Occupational and Organisational Psychology and is a fully qualified Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Practitioner, with experience in team development and management coaching.

Jackie Clifford

With over 30 years’ experience in HR and Learning and Development, Jackie’s enthusiasm for what she does is evident every time you meet her – virtually or in person! Jackie is the Director for her own business, Clarity Learning and Development and is delighted to work with Blue Star HR as an Associate. Since becoming a freelance L&D specialist in 2006 and founding her company in 2009 she has worked with organisations across the UK and internationally supporting hundreds of individuals to increase their effectiveness in their working lives. Jackie has built her business by referral; this is testament to the work that she has done with clients and the results that they have achieved by implementing their learning and action plans. Jackie writes regularly for TrainingZone and is the co-author of three books on learning and development-related topics, all published by Kogan Page. “The Coaching Handbook” has been published in Polish, Russian and Japanese, as well as English. As an employee, Jackie has worked with, amongst others, Debenhams, Girlguiding UK, the Port of Felixstowe and HM Prison Service. As a business owner she works with her own clients and other training providers as an Associate. Her Associate work enables her to work with national and international businesses in a range of sectors. Jackie’s focus is on designing and delivering bespoke interactive learning events – both face-to-face and virtual, with particular emphasis on people skills for managers. Her core specialism is coaching and mentoring; she works as a coach for individuals and groups and has been chosen to be part of a small team authorised to deliver a new EMCC (European Mentoring and Coaching Council) accredited Coach-Mentor programme – Coaching and Mentoring in the Workplace: A Program for Pragmatists. Clients who work with Jackie report increased confidence through identifying and developing their existing skills as well as building an enhanced toolkit of techniques that they are able to apply immediately to their own working lives.

Ferial Rolfe

MSc, Associate

Ferial is a uniquely skilled and broadly experienced manager at all levels from tactical to strategic, with extensive knowledge of public services and local government, backed by a Masters in Public Services Management.

Ferial’s varied career includes nearly thirty years as a uniformed member of Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, which provided challenges and opportunities in equal measure. She has been at the forefront of championing equality, diversity and inclusion in the Service and, as the first female officer in Suffolk, has worked closely with HR professionals over the years to develop policies such as job sharing for Fire personnel.
Ferial has a thorough understanding of the world of apprenticeships, having both managed apprentices and completed one herself alongside her day job. She is committed to helping young people to enter the workforce and to gain as much as they can from it, particularly those impacted by the Covid years.

Ferial is an accomplished interviewer and investigator, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills developed through experience and qualifications in mediation and coaching. Her ethos of empowering teams to deliver their best has provided demonstrable improvements in customer outcomes and reflects her belief that people really are the most valuable resource in any organisation.

Having worked exclusively in the public and charity sectors, Ferial has a thorough understanding of the personal qualities that are required to effectively manage teams when the options for performance management are limited and is able to support new and existing managers in developing these ideas in their workplace.

Ferial has extensive experience of delivering improvement programmes and projects within and across organisations, harnessing the benefits of collaboration without being limited by legacy thinking, achieved through focussing on user requirements.
