Outplacement support

Finding out that you are under threat or will be made redundant is a time of many emotions. The information on this page is available as a guide to help you through this difficult time and hopefully, guide you to a successful outcome.

You may go through a range of emotions on hearing the news. There is a known formula or `curve` for the range of emotions which you may experience. You may be able to identify which stage of the curve you are at now, and recognise which you have already been through. All these feelings are completely normal and we are here to try to help you pass through each stage in a positive way to get to the light at the end of the tunnel.

Tools for finding a new job

The most important tool you have is your CV. Make sure this is up to date and written in a clear format. We will set up an initial meeting with you, where we will discuss you, your strengths and weaknesses, your hobbies, what makes you who you are and we can put together a CV based on the information you give us. We will work on it until you are happy with the layout and information.

You possibly might look on this situation as an opportunity for a career change or some retraining. We can put in you in contact with a partner of Blue Star HR, who, for no charge, will meet with you and discuss your options including any funding available for retraining.
You can be proactive at this stage and contact as many recruitment agencies as possible; within this page are links to some local recruitment agencies.
Please note: we do not recommend any of the following agencies; this is purely a source of information.

The local press is also a good place to keep checking for any vacancies.

Don’t underestimate the power of networking either, sometimes a friend or associate may know of a vacancy before it has been advertised and you can send your CV to the relevant organisation.

Tips on Searching for Work

  • Make sure you have an up to date CV - Blue Star Human Resources Ltd can help you with this.
  • Register yourself with as many recruitment agencies as you can. Make sure they recruit within the sector you are looking for.
  • Do send your CV direct to businesses – they may be willing to keep it on file for future reference.
  • Keep an eye on the local press, not just on `jobs` day as some roles are put in on other days too.
  • Keeping searching online.
  • When applying for a role, remodel your CV to bring attention to the skills which you have and are necessary for the role in question. Remember to be honest about what you can and can't do - there's no point getting an interview for a job you don't have the skills for.
